Marjan hill on a handmade e-bike

A local guide leads a small group up the pine-covered hill that rises behind Poljud, on e-bikes built by hand, with stops at St Jerome's hermitage and the summit. Pick it for the climb without the sweat, and for a guide who tells Hajduk's story on the way down.

Handmade E-Bike Tour of Split and Marjan Hill

About this experience

Marjan is the forested hill at the west end of the Split peninsula, 178 metres high and protected since 1964 (Marjan on Wikipedia). Poljud sits below its northern slopes. This tour climbs the south side through pine forest on handmade e-bikes, stops at the medieval Church of St Jerome, where 15th-century hermitages are cut into the rock, then rides on to a 360-degree viewpoint and the summit, with the city, the Adriatic and the islands below.

On the descent the guide talks about local products and Split's history, Hajduk Split included. The last stop is Sustipan, the park on the cliffs above the harbour that was once Split's first cemetery (Visit Split). Then it's back to the start. Four hours in all, in a small group.

Be clear on two things. It does not go inside Poljud: for that, add the club's stadium tour, which fits into the same afternoon. And 15 reviews is a small sample, even with a 4.9 average. The listing includes food and drinks but gives no details, so don't plan on a meal.

  • Handmade e-bikes, so the climb is easy
  • St Jerome's church and its rock-cut hermitages
  • The summit panorama over Split and the islands
  • Hajduk's story from a local guide
  • Sustipan park on the way back
  • Small group, private groups on request

Tips before you book

  • Book a morning start in summer. The south side of Marjan gets full sun by midday.
  • Bring swimwear if you'll stay on Marjan after the tour: Bene and Kašjuni beaches sit at the foot of the hill.
  • Ask for a private group at booking if you're four or more. The listing offers it on request.
  • Do the Poljud stadium tour the same day. It takes 30 to 45 minutes and the stadium is at the bottom of the hill.

Frequently asked questions

No. It rides the hill behind the stadium, and the guide tells Hajduk's story on the descent. To go inside, book the club's stadium tour or the bike tour with Poljud.

How hard is the ride up Marjan?

The e-bike does most of the work on the climb. Marjan is 178 metres high, and you need to be comfortable on a bike on forest roads and gentle descents.

Is food included on the Marjan tour?

The listing includes food and drinks but gives no details. Eat properly before or after the four hours.

What is St Jerome's church on Marjan?

A small medieval church on the south side of the hill, with hermitages cut into the cliff that were first used in the 15th century. It's one of the main stops on this tour.
